Secretary Notes - "Y2K Recap"
Our membership extends a huge THANK-YOU to
the UKC and to all of the breed clubs that ever so kindly invited the
White Shepherd to participate at their shows. Because of all
of you, our first full year was one of great success! Besides having
the pleasure and honor of exhibiting our White Shepherd beauties as a
newly recognized UKC breed, our Club accomplished and/or was involved
with many activities. Here are just a few highlights:
The Club finalized the content and
production of "The United White Shepherd Club" brochure which answers
many questions about the White Shepherd and features the official UKC
breed standard. In
March, our Rules and Regulations Seminar was held in Kalamazoo. It was
represented by UKC Field Representative, Patrick O'Donnell, with the
assistance of Michelle Morgan, Tina Augustine, and the DEOWM.
In June, we attended our first UKC Premier
as White Shepherds. We are pleased to recognize that we were well
represented in not only conformation but we also had several obedience
entries and an agility exhibitor. Two of our White Shepherds were
honored with the coveted "Total Dog" award, at least one obedience
degree was earned, and another captured a Herding Group 4th. Notably,
our Club manned a booth for the entire weekend, proudly displaying our
newly designed Club banner (thanks, Jacki!), and we sponsored a
Microchip Clinic (thanks, Denise!).
In September, many members attended the
first ever White Shepherd Genetics Seminar presented by Dr. George
Padgett. This seminar came to pass thanks to the tremendous efforts put
forth by our own Judy Huston. In
October, I had the honor of speaking on the behalf of the White
Shepherd at a Breed Seminar sponsored by K9 Fanciers of Michigan. Many
other breeds were also presented and it was an extremely enlightening
experience for all in attendance. Most
recently, our new Club web-site is under development by UWSC members.
The address is www.UnitedWhiteShepherdClub.org.
Please visit this site for current information, events, and White
Shepherd breeder referrals!
We have yet to sponsor a UKC show at this
time, however, much thought and consideration were given to
this topic throughout this past year. We have been inspired by many of
the other clubs and look forward to the challenge in the upcoming
year. Respectfully
submitted, Diana L. Updike, UWSC Secretary
